We're staying in a beach bungalow on Sunrise beach Koh Lipe. It's really half tree house and half hut, steep stairs, poorly lit, and the whole place is a confusing jumble of trails at night. Last night Jan fell down the bungalow stairs. I gave her first aid but she needed stitches to her finger and maybe an x-ray. It was late and no staff around. I called the emergency number but no one answered, so I walked out to the main street and asked some local people for help. They didn't speak english but when I said "doctor" a Thai man took me to the the 24 hour clinic on his scooter and I brought a nurse and paramedic back to our bungalow by motorcycle taxi. After they examined her we all went to the clinic together for 10 stitches to her right hand. Still no word on getting an x-ray, we may have to go to another island for that. Going back for a recheck today.

Ohhhh!!!! Hopefully the clinic took care of you. Antibiotics and tetanus for sure. Speedy healing Jan! This will truly make this one trip you will always remember!

Oh gosh! I hope that the finger is not broken! What an adventure.

The recheck went well. The doctor thinks her finger is broken and we buddy taped it. There is a boat to Phuket every day where there is a proper hospital if needed, but Jan wants to stay here. So our current plan is to get an x-ray and have sutures removed on Koh Lanta island when we arrive there next week. She got antibiotics and a tetanus booster from the clinic here and they also run the Koh Lanta clinic.

Hi! Just a quick note to thank you for all your nice wishes. Just to clarify, I fell UP the stairs and cut my middle finger on the wood decking. In the process I jammed my middle and fourth fingers (on my right hand, of course) so I’m pretty bruised and very sore, but better than yesterday :). I’m almost certain I have at least one fracture on each finger; maybe more. We’ll know more when I have X-rays. We couldn’t be in a more beautiful place to recouperate. The major bummer is not being able to get my hand wet for 5 more days, but I can still wade!!
